PHILIPPINES-WORLD BANK-POVERTY
Former World Bank president James Wolfensohn warns a widening rich-poor gap could eventually lead to deadly conflicts, during his address at the Asian Institute of Management at Manila's financial district in Makati on March 5, 2008. Despite the sharp growth in countries like China and India, the absolute number of poor in the world was still growing, particularly in Africa. From about five billion poor people in the world just 15 years ago, "it will grow to eight billion people in the next five years," Wolfensohn said. AFP PHOTO/ROMEO GACAD
