French Bank Credit Agricole's President, Rene Carron, delivers a speech during a press conference on March 5, 2008, in Paris. The net income of Credit Agricole, France's biggest retail bank, fell for 2007 16.8 percent, to 4.04 billion euros (6.15 billion dollars) amid the subprime housing market crisis in the United States. In a statement, 2007 had been a "mixed year" for the group, despite the earmarking of 3.22 billion euros in "impairment charges for capital market activities in the wake of the US residential mortgage crisis.
