NORWAY-ARCTIC-POLAR-BEARS
TO GO WITH AFP STORY by Pierre-Henry Deshayes "Norvège-Arctique-société-animaux-ours"
Svalbard inhabitant Bjoern Fjukstad, 59, who has killed a polar bear in self-defense, is pictured on February 27, 2008 in Longyearbyen. In the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic there are more polar bears than people, and while the two species live side-by-side in peace most of the time there are occasionally fatal encounters. A road sign warning people to "Beware of the Bears" is probably the world's only public road sign reminding visitors of the dangers the animals present. AFP PHOTO / DANIEL SANNUM LAUTEN
