Demonstrations in favor and against the controversial lifting of a ban on the Islamic headscarf in universities took place during the week in Turkey as students went back to University after a biannual break. University rectors said February 28, 2007 they will maintain the headscarf ban on universities until parliament enacts another bill detailing the dress code on campus and explicitly banning more extreme Islamic attire such as the chador and the burqa.
