PHILIPPINES-CLIMATE-WARMING-HEALTH-ASIA-WHO
World Health Organisation (WHO) regional director Shigeru Omi gestures as he warns in Manila April 7, 2008, that more than half of the estimated 150,000 fatalities linked to climate-change each year will come from the Asia-Pacific region. Omi said most of these fatalities in Asia will come from greater incidence of diseases like malaria that area spread by mosquitoes and other "vectors", but many will also die due to diarrhea, malnutrition and flooding as weather patterns change. The WHO has already estimated that climate change will claim 150,000 lives annually. AFP PHOTO/Jay DIRECTO
