COLOMBIA-JUSTICE-AUC-CEPEDA-MACACO-EXTRADITION

Ivan Cepeda, director of the National Movement for Victims of State Crimes, speaks during a press conference in Bogota on April 7, 2008. Cepeda said he was bringing a lawsuit against the Colombian state for the extradition of Carlos Mario Jimenez, aka Macaco, the demobilized leader of the Bolivar Block, of the paramilitary group United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC). Colombia's Supreme Court and president Alvaro Uribe have both authorized in the past days the extradition of Jimenez to the United States to face charges on drug trafficking and other related crimes. Jimenez had demobilized and been granted benefits as part of a peace deal with the government but was later accused of continuing with his involvement with drug-trafficking operations.
