US soldiers block a road leading to the southern Shiite holy city of Najaf 18 April 2004. The US-led coalition closed various sections of highways connecting Baghdad with the north, east and south, so repairs could be made, but denied the closures were linked to fears that insurgents will bring the fight to the capital, as some have threatened.
