INDIA-TRANSPORT-BRT-CHAOS
Buses ply on the road as commuters are stuck in a traffic jam at the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in New Delhi, on April 27, 2008. India's capital has put the brakes on a grand project to speed up New Delhi's bus network which has caused massive traffic jams in the city of 18 million, officials said. The red light came as protests swelled over 5.8 kilometres (3.5 miles) of experimental bus lanes which left tens of thousands of motorists stuck for hours this week in 40-degree-Celsius (104-degree-Fahrenheit) heat.Delhi's under-fire chief minister Sheila Dixit said plans to construct more such bus lanes - straight down the middle of main roads - were being shelved for the mean time.
