CHINA-QUAKE-TANGSHAN
Fu Pingsheng, a survivor of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, gather with other patients for a musical jam session at the The Tangshan Home for Paralysis Victims in Tangshan on May 21, 2008, which has offered to receive 200 of Sichuan's victims. The deadly May 12 earthquake in southwestern China caused only mild shakes in Tangshan far to the north, but the psychological impact was like a hammer blow, and despite the startling devastation in Sichuan province, Tangshan still has the unfortunate distinction of suffering the deadliest earthquake in modern times, and Sichuan's tragedy has stirred painful and long-suppressed memories here.
