US-KATRINA-PARADE
Shawnie (L) and Joyce Boykins stand along the parade route at the annual Super Sunday second line parade on May 25, 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans' four major housing projects are in the process of being town down. The parade features Mardi Gras Indians which are comprised of African-Americans of inner city New Orleans' whose numbers have started to rebound after members were scattered across the country following Hurricane Katrina. The secretive Indian 'gangs' began appearing in the city in the 1880's as an homage to the Native Americans who sheltered runaway slaves.
