SPAIN-BASQUE-IBARRETXE-POLITICS
Basque regional president Juan Jose Ibarretxe (2R) and his government advisers Javier Madrazo (L) and Joseba Azkarraga (2L) officially present to the Basque regional parliament president Izaskun Bilbao on May 29, 2008 the proposal for a non binding referendum to take place on October 25, 2008. The Socialist government in Madrid, which has repeatedly rejected the poll as illegal, immediately announced it would take the issue before the Constitutional Court.
