FILES-US-FRANCES-HURRICANE PREPS
WITH AFP STORY: US-storm-hurricane Cash-strapped Floridian homeowners aren't hurricane-ready by Carmen Gentile
(FILES) Raul Garcia (R), Ramon Gonzalez (C) and Luis Tejera help each other place shutters on a window of a relative as they make preparations 03 September 2004, for the arrival of hurricane strong winds from Hurricane Frances. According to a recent survey by the Mason-Dixon polling firm, more than half of Floridians and those living in Atlantic and Gulf Coast states do not have a disaster plan, while 88 percent said they haven't taken any steps in the last year to strengthen their homes against hurricane damage. Last month Florida Governor Charlie Crist reminded residents to find room in their already strapped household budgets to at the very least stockpile emergency supplies like drinking water and food.
