FILES-AUSTRALIA-ENERGY-GAS-EXPLOSION-ECONOMY
(FILES) This photo taken on October 15, 2006 shows the historic Barracks Arch (below) with the high rise skyline of Perth in Western Australia in the background. Lights in Australia's fourth largest city Perth began going out on June 17, 2008 as the government warned that a huge blast at an off-shore gas plant will hurt the country's stellar economic growth. Office buildings and shops turned off non-essential lighting, dimmed electric signs and mothballed some lifts in a bid to save energy following the explosion at the Varanus Island plant off Western Australia two weeks ago.
