CORREX-ARGENTINA-HHRR-DISAPPEARED-WC1978-ANNIVERSARY
Members of the Human Rights organization Madres de Plaza de Mayo hold, on June 29, 2008 in front of the Army School of Mechanics (ESMA), a former clandestine center of detention in Buenos Aires, a flag with pictures of the disappeared in the last military dictatorship (1976-1983) in Argentina. Past June 25, Argentina commemorated the 30th anniversary of their FIFA World Cup 1978, which final was played at River Plate' s stadium, placed only some blocks away of the ESMA, and which Cup was given to the Argentine team by dictator (1976-1981) Jorge Rafael Videla. A match called "the other final" was played Sunday as a way to dissociate the player' s performance with the authoritarian regime, and in recognition of the victims of the dictatorship.
