French president Nicolas Sarkozy (C) delivers a speech on July 02, 2008 at the Elysee presidential palace in Paris, after Colombian-French hostage Ingrid Betancourt has been rescued from FARC rebels. Colombia's defence minister in Bogota said Betancourt, three Americans and 11 Colombian soldiers who were held by FARC rebels were rescued by Colombian elite forces. Betancourt, the most high-profile of the hostages, was seized in 2002 along with her presidential campaign manager Clara Rojas, and was finally rescued on July 02, 2008, after six years captivity.
