Colombia's defence minister in Bogota said Betancourt, three Americans and 11 Colombian soldiers who were held by FARC rebels were rescued by Colombian elite forces. Betancourt, the most high-profile of the hostages, was seized in 2002 along with her presidential campaign manager Clara Rojas, and was finally rescued on July 02, 2008, after six years in captivity.
