CORRECTING GORTNEY'S RANK
Vice Admiral William Gortney (L), the new commander of the Bahrain-based US Navy's Fifth Fleet, cuts a cake with his predecessor Vice Admiral Kevin Cosgriff (R) and US ambassador to Bahrain Joseph Adam Ereli (C) during a handover of command ceremony at US Naval headquarters in Manama on July 5, 2008. Gortney took command of the Fifth Fleet today as Iran's army chief warned today that the Islamic republic would shut the Strait of Hormuz which controls Gulf oil exports if its interests were threatened, only a few days after the outgoing commander Cosgriff vowed that the US would not allow this to happen.
