CHILE-VOLCANO-CHAITEN
A plume of smoke spews from the Chaiten volcano near the city of the same name, 1,200 km south of Santiago, Chile, on July 18, 2008. The Chaiten volcano, which first began to erupt in May after lying dormant for centuries, has erupted with renewed strength, belching thick clouds of ash and hurling molten rocks into the air.
