GERMANY-HISTORY-RETIREMENT-NAZI-SOCIAL
TO GO WITH AFP STORY by DANIEL KARL JAHN - 83-year-old Berliner Manfred Joachim, whose father was Jewish, holds up a poem written by his eldest brother's wife on March 4, 1943, the day she was hanged by the Nazis at Berlin's Ploetzensee prison for her work in the German resistance, in his Berlin flat July 17, 2008. As the last generation of Holocaust survivors enters the twilight years, many are losing the strength to suppress horrific childhood memories and caregivers find they are often ill-equipped to help.
