GERMANY-AUTO-COMPANY-TAKEOVER-CONTINENTAL
The shadow of a journalist can be seen on a wall with the logo of German auto parts group Continental on July 23, 2008 at the company's headquarters in Hanover, western Germany. Continental's supervisory board will review a bid by the Schaeffler group -- raised on July 21, 2008 to 70.12 euros a share from the initial 69.37 euros which was dismissed as far too low by boss Manfred Wennemer. Schaeffler, a specialist in precision roller bearings and other parts for the auto and aerospace industries, quietly gained access to around 36 percent of Continental's equity while avoiding having to declare its intentions to the German stock market watchdog BaFin.
