POLAND-WARSAW-UPRISING-COMMEMORATION
People pay respect at the Gloria Victis monument at the Powazki Military Cemetery, as a part of the commemorations of the 64th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, on August 1, 2008. The Warsaw Uprising, which started on August 1, 1944, was the largest armed operation of the resistance movements in the whole of Nazi-occupied Europe. Originally expected to last several days, it ended after 63 days of heavy fighting. AFP PHOTO/PAP/Pawel Kula / POLAND OUT
