UN-ICOAST-POLLUTION
The United Nations' special rapporteur Okechukwu Ibeanu answers journalists's questions regarding the illegal dumping of toxic waste in Abidjan, August 8, 2008. In August 2006, the Probo Koala ship, chartered by the Netherlands-based Trafigura oil trading group, dumped deadly caustic soda and petroleum residues on city waste tips in Abidjan, killing at least 10 people. Ibeanu will hold talks with ministers and officials, as well as victims' organisations during his four-day trip to Ivory Coast before submitting a report to the UN's human rights council next year.
