An undated handout picture released by the Lebanese Army in Beirut on August 29, 2008 shows the new army chief, General Jean Kahwaji. The Lebanese Council of Ministers decided today to appoint General Kahwaji, 54, to the post of chief of the Lebanese army, replacing General Michel Sleiman who was elected president in May, Information Minister Tareq Mitri announced at the end of a cabinet meeting. Kahwaji, a Maronite from southern Lebanon, is married with three children. He has been commander of the Lebanese Armed Force's 12th brigade.
