GERMANY-POLITICS-ISLAM-DEMO-FARRIGHT

A tourist boat rented by far-right Pro-Koeln group for their international "anti-Islamification congress" is escorted by a police boat on the river Rhine after stones were thrown on it by counter-protesters in the western city of Cologne on September 19, 2008. The two-day event has been organised by members of the far-right Pro-Koeln (For Cologne) who hope that 1,500 people will attend the high point of the congress, a rally on September 20 in the city centre to defend the continent against an "immigrant invasion" and oppose the building of a new mosque. Mayor Fritz Schramma, whose city council recently gave the green light for the construction in Cologne of what will be one of Europe's biggest mosques, has called on the city's inhabitants to show the far-right "the cold shoulder."
