SAFRICA-ZULU-KING-STATUE-UNVEILING

Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini ka Bhekuzulu unveils the statue of his great uncle Zulu King Dinizulu ka Cetshwayo in Durban, on September 20, 2008 to celebrate Heritage month. The unveiling of the statue is the one of the many events planned by the South African government to recognise their role and to honour those African leaders who fought colonialism and apartheid over the last 300 years of White rule and for the struggle for freedom in South Africa. The 1890's saw more than 80% of land grabbed and distributed among white farmers, cattle dying of disease and young men were absorbed by migrant labour and African poverty spread throughout. King Dinizulu ka Cetshwayo, the King of the Zulu nation led in fighting for the dignity of his people, their land and the Zulu Royal household, was exiled for 7 years on the island of St. Helena for leading his Zulu army against the British colonialists.
