Directors at French electricity firm EDF on September 23, 2008 approved a new offer for British Energy that the British group urged its shareholders to accept, a source close to the matter said. The British government, which is seeking to sell its 35.2 percent stake in British Energy, wants to see a renewal of its nuclear-power generating capacity and the group's assets are seen as a springboard for any such effort.
