Belgian football club officials are worried about the future of their sponsors, Dexia and Fortis, which have been encountering serious difficulties. Dexia, which supports Anderlecht, became on September 30 the latest European bank to need a state bailout with Belgium, France and Luxembourg pumping 6.4 billion euros into the group so that the US-driven financial crisis would not claim another victim. And markets reacted coldly to an announcement by Belgian, Dutch and Luxembourg officials on September 28 of a 11.2 billion euro plan to partly nationalize Fortis, which sponsors Bruges.
