BELGIUM-FRANCE-BANKING-DEXIA
Front view of the Dexia's bank headquarters building taken on October 07, 2008, in Brussels. The board of troubled French-Belgian bank Dexia elected a former Belgian premier Jean-Luc Dehaene as chairman Tuesday and named a BNP Paribas manager CEO, Pierre Mariani on the back of a major bail-out package. The departure of bank chairman Pierre Richard and chief executive officer Axel Miller were among the conditions of a 6.4-billion-euro bailout package for Dexia, hastily put together by the French, Belgian and Luxembourg governments last week. Mariani was French budget minister in the 1990s and is a former head of French President Nicolas Sarkozy's office.
