A Shanghai court rejected an appeal on October 20 from an unemployed man who became an unlikely cult hero after murdering six policemen in what he said was revenge for a wrongful arrest. Presiding judge Xu Wei upheld last month's guilty verdict and would seek approval from China's Supreme People's Court for 28-year-old Yang Jia to be executed.
