GERMANY-POLITICS-STATE-PARTIES-SPD
The SPD candidate for Hesse state premier, Andrea Ypsilanti (3rdR) gives a press conference with party members on November 3, 2008 at the Hesse state parliament in Wiesbaden after a planned state alliance with a far-left party fell apart over the sudden opposition of the four SPD deputies Dagmar Metzger, Juergen Walter, Silke Tesch and Carmen Everts. Hesse has been in political limbo since a January state poll when both the ruling conservatives and the Social Democrats (SPD) failed to win a majority with their preferred coalition partner. The move went against Ypsilanti's explicit pledges during the campaign not to seek Die Linke's help in forming a coalition. AFP PHOTO DDP/THOMAS LOHNES GERMANY OUT
