The Dutch government on Friday formally oversaw the takeover of ABN Amro bank by its old rival Fortis and the selling-off of the latter's insurance activities in The Netherlands. The goverment last month nationalised the Dutch activities of the Belgian-Dutch banking group Fortis in a 16.8 billion euro (23.5 billion dollar) deal to ease pressures from the global financial crisis on the economy.
