NETHERLANDS-DRUGS-CANNABIS-TOURISM
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY ALIX RIJCKAERT
Christophe, 30, of Bsussels smokes a joint outside coffeeshop 'Azul' on November 19, 2008 in Rosendaal, Brabant. The Dutch approach of tolerance on soft drugs is the centre of a heated debate in The Netherlands on 21 November 2008, opposing those who want to close the cannabis-selling coffee-shops and the supporters of a state regulation of hemp production. In 1976, the Netherlands decriminalised the consumption of cannabis, and the possession of less than five grams. Its cultivation and wholesale remains prohibited.
