TURKEY-BSEC-ARMENIA-NALBANDIAN-MEETING
Foreign Minister of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian talks to the media prior to a meeting with secretary general of the Black Sea Economic Coorporation (BSEC), Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos (not pictured), in Istanbul, on November 24, 2008. BSEC members are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldavia, Romania, Russia, Serbia-Montenegro, Turkey and Ukraine. Armenia's president Serzh Sarkisian vowed in April 2008 to redouble efforts to have mass killings of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire recognised as genocide, a label staunchly rejected by Turkey. Turkey and Armenia have no diplomatic ties and their border has been closed for more than a decade. Their relationship has been taken hostage by deep differences over the World War I massacres of Armenians under the Ottoman Empire, the predecessor of Turkey. AFP PHOTO / MUSTAFA OZER
