NICARAGUA-POLITICS-HISTORY-LOMAS DE TISCAPA-SANDINO
GO WITH A STORY OF AFP IN SPANISH BY FRANCISCO JARA
The silhouette of general Augusto C. Sandino, a Nicaraguan hero and guerrilla leader who fought against the US Marine Corps between 1927-1933 stands in the hills of Loma de Tiscapa National Park in Managua, on November 23, 2008. The presidential residence of Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza stood here until it was destroyed by the earthquake in 1972, as well as his famous shelter "The Somoza Bunker" and the dungeon in which his political prisoners were once tortured.
