GERMANY-EAST-HISTORY-PALAST DER REPUBLIK
A boat with an advertising for Berlin's football club Union Berlin reading "And never forget: Iron Union" and a Santa Claus as passenger makes its way past the last remainings of the former east German parliament building (Palast der Republik) on December 2, 2008, at the site where Berlin's Royal Palace used to stand. Damaged during the Second World War, levelled by the then communist east German government in 1950, the Royal Palace originally built in the late 17th century, gave way to east Germany's parliament building, the Palast der Republik, which is currently being dismantled.
