BELGIUM-EU-CROATIA
Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic gives a press conference with European enlargement commissioner Olli Rhen (not pictured) on December 19, 2008 at EU headquarters in Brussels. Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor confirmed on December 18 that his country would block Croatia's EU accession but urged his Croatian counterpart Ivo Sanader to meet in order to resolve the dispute. Pahor had announced earlier this week he would veto on December 19 the opening of 11 of the 35 EU policy chapters all candidate nations must successfully negotiate prior to membership to prevent any "prejudging" of the long-running border dispute between the two former Yugoslav states.
