French skipper Marc Guillemot poses on his monohull on December 20, 2008 off South of the Australian coast during the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world sailing race. Guillemot had changed course the day before to meet Yann Elies following his accident and remained nearby providing support over the radio until the arrival of the Australian ship. An Australian navy frigate today rescued the French yachtsman badly injured in the remote Southern Ocean. Two crew members transferred Yann Elies to the HMAS Arunta from his 60-foot (18-metre) yacht Generali, fellow sailor Marc Guillemot said on the Vendee Globe race website, describing the scene.
