FILES-BELGIUM-JUSTICE-TRABELSI
(FILES) File picture dated February 2002 shows Tunisian Al-Qaeda sympathiser Nizar Trabelsi introducing a summary procedure against Belgian State at the Brussels summary Court for his excessive detention conditions. Nizar Trabelsi, jailed in Belgium, has gone on hunger strike in protest against his detention in a high-security section, his lawyer said on December 30, 2008. He was arrested 48 hours after the September 11, 2001, attacks in the United States and sentenced in June 2004 to 10 years in jail for plotting to drive a car bomb into Kleine Brogel, a NATO airbase in Belgium where US military personnel work. On December 18 he was transferred to a high-security prison in the northern city of Bruges where he is still being held. He then began a hunger strike to protest against his new prison conditions.
According to local VTM television, he was moved after death threats to Belgian paedophile and murderer Marc Dutroux at the Ittre prison in central Belgium where both men were incarcerated. AFP PHOTO / FILES BELGA OLIVIER MATTHYS **BELGIUM-OUT***
