Angry youths of Bakin Ciyawa get ready to defend their town with their machetes, bows and arrows in absence of security operatives 21 May 2004, following attacks by Hausa Fulani herdsman at Bakin Ciyawa in Quanpan district of Plateau State. Despite the state of emergency imposed by President Olusegun Obasanjo culminating in the sacking of governor Jushua Dariye to check the lingering ethnic and religious violence in crisis ridden Plateau State, north central Nigeria, fighting broke out again 18 May, between Chistians and Muslims in Sabon Gida, Bakin Ciyawa and neighbouring towns in Quanpan district leaving dozens of lives dead, property and houses burnt.
