CHINA-LUNAR-POLLUTION
Workers repair the glass covering newspaper boards behind a bronze ox beneath the drum tower in Linfen, a city often considered the world's most polluted due to its numerous iron foundries and coking plants nearby, on January 6, 2009, in northern China's Shanxi province, notorious for the pollution it produces due to the region's vast coal-mining industry. The Year of the Ox according to the Chinese lunar calender, a sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work, begins on January 26 and across the country people are gearing up for the biggest holiday of the year, also known as Spring Festival, or Chunjie.
