MIDEAST-PALESTINIAN-ISRAEL-RAFAH
Palestinian women sit 21 May 2004 on a pile of rubble outside their destroyed home in the outskirts of the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah in the Brazil neighborhood, where few Israeli tanks and armored vehicles were still in position. The Israeli army withdrew most of its troops from Rafah, where more than 40 Palestinians, including children, have been killed since the start of a devastating raid dubbed "Operation Rainbow" allegedly aimed at stopping arms smuggling from Egypt through supposed cross-border tunnels. So far, none have been found.
