INDIA-KASHMIR-BLAST-VEHICLE-WRECKAGE
A member of the Indian security force personnel (R) stands by the smouldering wreckage of a Border Security Force (BSF) bus, damaged by a landmine explosion as it lies on the main Kashmir Highway at Lower Munda, some 80 kms south of Srinagar, 23 May 2004. Twenty-six soldiers of the BSF were killed and 12 people, including three civilians, were injured, in the blast. The attack came less than a day after Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was sworn in as head of a new left-leaning government that has pledged to find a peaceful solution in Kashmir. Kashmir-s leading rebel group Hizbul Mujahedin claimed responsibility for the attack. AFP PHOTO/Sajjad HUSSAIN
