SUDAN-FRANCE-ARCHEOLOGY

A recent handout picture received from the French Unit of the Sudan Antiquities Service shows the excavations of a Neolithic tomb containing a 5,500-year-old man, believed to have been an important leader at the time of death, in El-Kadada, a village 200 kilometers north of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. French archaeologists in Sudan say they have uncovered the oldest proof of human sacrifice in the African continent, past to about 5.500 years from now, or between 3.700 years and 3.400 before Christ, hailing the discovery as the biggest Neolithic find on the continent for years. Neolithic expert Jacques Reinhold, who has led the excavation for several months, described the tomb as the most important Neolithic find in Africa since the 1990s.
