KENYA-SOMALIA-PIRACY-SHIPPING
Kenyan military officers stand guard at the Belize flagged MV Faina on February 13, 2009 at the Mombasa harbour where it has been berthed for the last two days. The MV Faina, freed by Somali pirates last week, docked in Mombasa with its exhausted crew and controversial cargo of tanks and munitions. The ship's cargo of 33 refurbished Soviet-era T-72 tanks and at least 14,000 rounds of ammunition was to be offloaded and dispatched to Kenyan military bases, according to Kenyan officials. While Kenya has always said the shipment was for its armed forces, several experts and diplomats have maintained it was destined for the government of South Sudan and was the fifth delivery of its kind in less than two years.
