JAPAN-US-DIPLOMACY-ASIA-FILES
(FILES) This file photo taken on April 17, 1996 shows US President Bill Clinton (2nd L) and First Lady Hillary (L) being greeted by Japanese Emperor Akihito (R) and Empress Michiko (2nd R) upon their arrival at the Imperial Palace to attend dinner reception hosted by the Imperial couple. Hillary Clinton, the new secretary of state under the Barack Obama administration, was set to return to Japan on February 17, 2009 at the start of an Asian tour expected to focus on the global economic crisis and hot-button security issues including North Korea. Clinton -- who will also visit Indonesia, South Korea and China -- broke with a decades-old tradition of US top diplomats travelling first to Europe or the Middle East after taking office.
