THAILAND-ASEAN-SUMMIT

Southeast Asian ministers signed a major free trade deal with Australia and New Zealand as they opened a regional summit focused on the global economic meltdown. Ministers discussed forming a rights body and the plight of refugees from military-ruled Myanmar, but their annual meeting is being dominated by efforts to shield the region's export-driven economies from the financial crisis.
