SPAIN-VOTE-BASQUES-RESULTS
Current Basque regional president Juan Jose Ibarretxe hugs Basque Nationalist Party PNV president Inigo Urkullu (R) in Bilbao on March 1, 2009 following the disclosure of voting results in the Basque regional elections. The incumbent Basque Nationalist Party PNV won the most seats in the regional election in Spain today, but failed to secure an outright majority, final official results showed. The PNV, which has ruled the region since 1980, captured 30 seats in the 75-seat Basque parliament compared to 24 seats for the local branch of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's Socialist Party, the Basque regional government said.
