SOMALIA-UNREST-CHILDREN
TO GO WITH AFP STORY by Mustafa Haji Abdinur
Somali orphans shine shoes on February 17, 2009 on the streets of Mogadishu to scrape a living. In Somalia, childhood dies fast. By the time they are old enough to count money and carry a can of polish, Mogadishu's shoneshiner boys have little to look forward to. Somalia has one of the world's lowest enrolment rates. Boys in poor families become bread-earners at a very early age and many of them living in the Mogadishu area begin their lonely struggle for survival as shoeshiners. AFP PHOTO/Mustafa ABDI
