SOMALIA-UNREST-CHILDREN
TO GO WITH AFP STORY by Mustafa Haji Abdinur
Somali orphans Hasan Qasim (L) and Abdulkadir Kusow shine shoes on February 17, 2009 on the streets of Mogadishu to scrape a living. In Somalia, childhood dies fast. By the time they are old enough to count money and carry a can of polish, Mogadishu's shoneshiner boys have little to look forward to. Somalia has one of the world's lowest enrolment rates. Boys in poor families become bread-earners at a very early age and many of them living in the Mogadishu area begin their lonely struggle for survival as shoeshiners. AFP PHOTO/Mustafa ABDI
