FRANCE-POLITICS-BANKING-CORRUPTION-EXECUTIVE
(FILES) Picture taken on March 25, 2009 in Paris shows head of the French bank Caisse d'Epargne which is merging with rival Banque Populaire, Francois Perol, during an audition by the financial commission of the National Assembly. French anti-corruption police on April 1, 2009, began a preliminary enquiry into President Nicolas Sarkozy's decision to name a senior aide to head a major new banking group, a legal source said. The Paris prosecutor's office ordered the probe after complaints by two anti-corruption campaign groups about the appointment last month of Francois Perol to head the Caisse d'Epargne/Banque Populaire banking group.
